DIT are pleased to announce that the DIT CPD programme in Medical Device Decontamination was recently validated as a level 7, DIT CPD certificate award. This CPD programme is designed to meet the continuing education and training requirements of all healthcare professionals with responsibility for the decontamination of re-usable medical devices. Key elements of the programme include:

• Flexible programme delivery based on a one afternoon/evening per week, block release format over a period of ten weeks;
• Module content aligned with contemporary professional practice delivered by a panel of in-house and practising field experts;
• Programme has the support of the Irish Decontamination Institute, the Irish Dental Association and Clinical Sterilisation Managers in the Medical Decontamination profession.

We are currently preparing for student intake on the CPD programme for February 2016. Completed application forms should be emailed to the School of Biological Sciences at by January 18th 2016 at the latest. In this email it is also essential to attach a recent CV detailing all academic qualifications, any other relevant Certificates, Awards or Training Programmes you have completed and all Professional relevant work experience. Copies of academic qualifications/awards may be requested.

As the CPD programme employs laboratory-based tuition, intake is restricted to 16 students. It is anticipated that the number of applications will exceed student intake. In this event a selection process will apply based on your previous expression of interest in the programme and relevant qualifications and work experience. Applicants that do not secure a place on the first student intake in February 2016 will be prioritised for the next academic year based on your continued interest in the programme and meeting the selection criteria.

The course will consist of a Thursday and half day Friday at the Olympus office in Ballymount, Dublin 12. The course will include:

• Surgical camera systems and Imaging-How to get the best from YOUR system. (Not specific to Olympus equipment)
• Meet and Tour of our Technical Service department- See how your equipment is repaired, meet the people who do this and the environment they work in.
• Practical demonstrations of the Latest Olympus Technology-Coming SOON to a Surgical department near you.
• Hand on sessions with Laparoscopic Energy devices and Urology/ENT/Aneas Scopes
• Cleaning & Disinfection Best Practise for Flexible and Rigid Optical equipment

Course fee: €325 per person.
